Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be better able to:
Identify appropriate indications for surgical airway suctioning, including patients with artificial airways, neuromuscular disorders, and impaired secretion clearance.
Screen patients for risk factors that may require suctioning, such as excessive secretions, altered consciousness, or neuromuscular conditions.
Select the appropriate catheter size, suction pressure, and equipment for each patient based on their airway size, age, and condition to minimize risks and improve patient outcomes.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop comprehensive care plans for patients requiring frequent suctioning, ensuring safe and effective airway management.
